Greek Geography Essay, Research Paper
The geography in Ancient Greece did affect the way the Greeks lived their day-to-day lives. Greek?s geography prevented most kinds of agriculture the opportunity to grow. Also, it forced most of the Greek city-states to develop their own customs and government. Being on the seafront of the Mediterranean Sea gave them many opportunities to make an empire.
In Ancient Greece, there were many mountains, which prevented most forms of agriculture to grow. This forced the Greeks to harvest small amounts of olives and grapes. These two crops were essentially the only two crops that the Greeks were able to grow.
Since large mountains separated most Greek city-states, communication and trade was hard to accomplish. This isolated most city-states, and these states eventually created their own culture. Although they all still had the same religion and language, there were many other major differences. Most isolated city-states developed their own form of government.
Since Greece is on the Mediterranean Sea, it allowed the Ancient Greek civilization to spread its power throughout the Mediterranean world. Since Greece was near the sea, it was able to spread its reach throughout the Aegean Sea, onto Italy and Sicily, Egypt, Asia Minor, and even some parts of the Iberian Peninsula. This allowed Greece to build a great empire.
The geography of Ancient Greece affected the way the Greeks lived their lives in many ways. It disallowed most kinds of agriculture the chance to grow. The geography required most city-states to develop their customs and government. Also, being on the Mediterranean, it allowed Greece to establish an empire throughout the Mediterranean.
