Terrorism Essay, Research Paper
In the world today we have all sorts of violence; it is like a wild fire when terrorism is the issue. World terrorism is very violent because there are different groups trying to express their own point of view. Many terrorist groups have been associated with religious ideologies. This is because some religions will not adapt different views or different beliefs. It is safe to say that world terrorism is the key in the ancient and on going religious conflicts. Since the sixteenth century the continuous conflicts between Catholics and Protestants have decreased everywhere except in Northern Ireland. These conflicts have led to numerous deaths and dangerous bombing attacks by these religions. In Northern Ireland there are Irish Catholics who live on the hilltops for many decades. There are also Protestants who live on the main land. These two religions have two separate terrorist groups? One of which is Roman Catholic (IRA-Irish Republican Army) and the other is the Protestant loyalist’s group, Ulster Freedom Fighter. In past decades there have been almost more then 3200 murders of the Ulster Protestants group. One incident was a bombing of a young assassin with a plastic explosive. He walk into a Belfast fish shop knowing that it was a main headquarters for Ulster Protestant group. That bomb explodes unexpectedly killing the young (IRA) assassin and nine Protestants, also including an innocent seven-year-old girl. There have been many retaliation attacks to similar incidents, by these two religious groups. One saying by a Puritan leader Oliver Cromwell is that the catholic massacres and the slaughtering of priests is “a righteous judgement of god” (Haught,64). This just shows how religious differences cause militant acts. Through various books they portray people of the Islamic religion as terrorists. In Palestine, Muslims have inflicted many problems towards the Jews. There are many different Islamic groups that inflict terrorist acts, one group is called the Islamic Resistance Movement, also known as the Arabic acronym Hamas. This is understood to mean all out war. The Islamic resistance movement feels that Israelis will exist and continue to exist unless Islam abolishes this deviant race. Also Muslims from Palestine feel that it is time for redemption and this will not be achieved until “Muslim’ s fight the Jews and kill them, and until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees”(Hoffman, 98). This clearly shows how Muslims of Palestine are not open to different beliefs or cultures. Maybe they feel insecure within their own religion. That’s why they cause terrorist acts against the people of the Jewish communities. Another group of Muslim’s is the Shi’a Muslim’s from Palestine who feel that Jews are six million descendants of monkeys and have too much power within every nation. One clear fact is that 150 people have been killed in 14 suicide attacks by members of the Hamas and the Palestine’s Islamic Jihad (another extremist Islamic group) between April of 1994 and July of 1997. These suicide attacks are taught to be the very glorious and greatly praised by Allah. People who perform these acts of terror are told to have lots of sex in their after life. If this community promotes suicide attacks as being holy, this will be easily presumed by one to be very sick and inhuman. The main purpose behind the hatred between Muslims and Jews is for Muslims to retain their Islamic ideologies which they feel Jews infringe on. All these acts have lead to a retaliation the vice-versa policy by the Jewish community. The number of Jewish terrorists has increased from the start of the 1980’s. Their main concern is because for many generations they feel that people have overpowered their communities, and made them suffer. The Jewish community feels that they have been using the no-hitting back as a policy, which is not giving them any respect. They feel that they should respect themselves before respecting others. The big speaker is Rabbi Meir Kahane who promotes hatred towards Arabs. Rabbi Meir Kahane feels that Arabs should be fully dehumanized. He states “I don’t intend to sit quietly by while Arabs intend to liquidate my state- either by bullets or by having babies”. He shows how he is also adding to this pool of violence and hatred. By promoting such statements is it going to help people live in a peaceful and humane society? We must understand different religions and their holy grounds, not to step all over each other like animals. The end result for the Jewish community is for a total annihilation of the Arabs. This is the end result for the Jewish community, posing the question, ” What are the benefits of Religion?”
One of world’s highly populated countries has its fare share of holy terrorism. In the motherland of India there have been lands which have holy and sacred for two religions. The hilltops of Ayodhya where Muslims have built a mosque in the early 16-century have conflicts with the Hindus, because Hindus feel that there god Rama was born on the hilltops some 900 000 years ago. These religious misunderstandings have lead to conflicts between these two communities for centuries. In 1949 one Hindu priest smuggled an idol of Rama into the mosque. This led the government to put padlocks on this mosque to stop holy massacres. In the year of 1989 the World Hindu council called for a forceful seizure of the Muslim hilltop and to replace this mosque with a Rama temple. Only one year later more than 100 000 Hindu believers went for pilgrimage to Ayodhya. Even a Hindu princess came with 300 trucks. There was about 20 000 soldiers like a ring around this mosque, with rifles ready for violence. The next day clashes erupted between Hindus and Muslim’s, this lead to riots where people were stabbed, clubbed, stoned and even burned to death. In 1992 there was a second pilgrimage by Hindu’s that brought about 300 000 people to Ayodhya. This time Hindu’s came for the destruction of the mosque. After the destruction of the mosque this triggered a national confusion which had killed more than 2 000 people. Muslim’s had ran sacked Hindu temples. This lead to Bombay where they had 9 days straight of riots between Hindu’s and Muslim’s. This shows how religion can be a key instrument in World Terrorism. From a variety of religions there is a variety of terrorism. World terrorism will never end if there are religions that cannot attain mutual understanding. If religions are to give one a spiritual uplifting, why is it that they can promote such unholy acts of violence? This just shows that religions can never be the start to a better world unless we have a religion that can accept everybody else’s religion. Terrorism can be caused by many reasons, but in a modern society like ours ideologies combined with terrorism is deadly. The evil that one can impose against another is just unreal, so if ideologies are toned down from religious leaders this can be the start to something significant. Major leaders of countries suggesting peace talks to impose freedom might just work. This issue of World terrorism will always be around; it’s about changing mankind’s ignorance, if it can be changed?
