virtual war

I read the book Virtual War by Gloria Skurzynski. The book is about the future

in 2053. Now the earth’s population is only around 2 million becuase of disease, and

chemical and nuclear war have made much of the planet unfit for living. Now people live

in huge bubbles for ozone and toxin protection. There are also no wars now, becuase

there aren’t enough people, so they have virtual war. Virtual war is when they have a

team of 3 of there best fight for them. The main character is a boy named Corgan, and he

is the team leader. He is 14 years old and had been genetically made for the virtual war.

Corgan lived in a “aerogel” box for all his life, and a program was written for him to act as

a mother and father, called the Mendor. His team was very good. Sharla was chosen to

be on the team because she was a code breaker. And the third teammate was a genetic

experimnet gone wrong. He was a mutant with a huge head and a small skinny body. But

he was very smart. They all trained together and were unbeatable. The team was going

into war over an island that was fit for living. They won the battle, and afterwards Corgan

found out that people placed bets on the war, like it was a game. The virtual war was

supposed to be held so people would know how man was like and learn from his lesson,

but since they placed bets and thought of it as a game, they had learned nothing.

I would not recommend this book. It had a simple plot and boring characters. It

might be a fun book to read for people who are into computers and the future of

technology, but it was not heart-pumping as I thought it would be. I think the author had

a good point but many people would not read it to the end so they wouldn’t get anything

out of it. It was like a goosebumps book. So I wouldn’t recommed this book.
