Electric Belief System Essay, Research Paper

The use of eclectic belief systems is the ultimate realization of personal destiny. It is a set of beliefs and practices that have been tailored to the needs of the individual, not of the populus, or the governing geographical authority. It represents an active, positive role of the individual in the direction of his or her life.

To question the validity of institutional belief systems is a difficult step for the individual to take, since it is a step out of his secure, learned environment. It has taken years to develop the attitude of blind devotion and trust in the given system, and the individual has been taught never to question or have doubts concerning the system. The system has built-in checks and balances to preclude the postulant from wandering down these paths of questioning.

Once the believer has questioned the system and leaned that it is the concoction of fallible individuals such as ourselves and that one system is as meaningful as another, the vista of possibilities opens before him.

Since the beginning of our lives, the structure of our personal belief system has been dictated by our peers. W had no choice in the system in which we are presently enrolled in, since we were placed into it by our parents. The cosmology and purpose of the belief matrix was not called into question until incidents in our lives caused us to do so.

Often we cannot update or change the belief system of our childhood, or leave it, due to inculcated fears, guilt, or respect developed by the antiquated system and it s proponents. The mores and taboos stressed by these systems are based upon ancient health and welfare ideals not suited for present day usage. These practices are cruel and unusual procedures performed in the name of deity, instituted by a patriarchal governing body for the purpose relegating women to a life of servitude and secondary roles within society.
