Autism is a relatively rare occurence it is estimated that it occurs in between 2 to 5 peple in every ten-thousand births. The main factor that makes autistic childeren different from the norm is there lack of sociability. The autistic child does not appear to even want to interact with others and many times prefers self stimulation such as flicking there fingers in front of their face or biting. An austistic child is one of the greatest challenges in the classroom. With this type of child the goal for the teacher should be to help integrate the child into the social aspect of school. Some of the problems an educator will run into are marked empairment in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye to eye gaze, facial expressions, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction. With this comes the in ability to socialize with their peers. A person who has autism genreally lacks spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests or achievements with other people. So because of this an autistic child does not engage in conversation, and if they it seems they are saying to stimulate themselves. Autistic childeren do not take part in make belave or social imitative play. The autistic child tends to focus on objects and places high values on them hence they look as people as objects to. The autistic child presents many challenges to their teacher, but even though there are effective methods that have helped many.
Helping the child academically should be the goal of the teacher first and foremost. Some things a teacher can help this child with
