Lawrence J. Ellison was born in Chicago IL, in 1944. He studied at the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago, which has 71 noble prizewinners that have been affiliated with the school. His accomplishments include the Entrepreneur or the Year in 1990 from the Harvard School of Business. In 1994 he was awarded the Smithsonian Information Technology Leadership award for Global Integration. An honorary degree from Northern Jiao Tong University in China. Ellison is a director of Next Corporation. He is a member of President Bill Clinton s Export Council. Ellison is one of the leading figures in the database software community. Larry Ellison is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of the Wall Street sensation Oracle. Larry Ellison is known as a visionary, in 1977 he founded his company. He has a constant idea of where Oracle needs to go to stay an industry leader. Larry is also on the Board of Director for Apple computers. In 1996 he was a guest on a talk show and state that, What we need right now is fast and low-cost Internet-dedicated lines. Larry saw the future before anyone else did saw that broadband and digital satellite lines where the way to go. Larry stated on the talk show inspired one man for sure. Kenneth Jackson the founder and CEO saw the show and created Innetix Incorporated, which has become a leader in not only broadband but also wireless web. Larry has always believed that information is the key to success in any organization.
Larry has always been second to Bill Gates of Microsoft. Both companies are constantly at battle with each other. Ellison was an instigator in the anti-trust suits against Microsoft. Because of the controversy Larry was able to claim the thrown of the riches man in the US for one day at least. On April 25, Ellison surpasses Gates with a total worth of over 50 billion dollars while Gates ended the day at 49.4 billion dollars. Larry is now working on a new operating system for Palm Pilots. Oracle has been an industry leader and will continue with worldwide growth in the future.
