Science Verses Religion

– The Creation Dilemma Essay, Research Paper

Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to. – George Seaton

Science verses Religion. It has always been this way since the beginning of

time, literally. It is very difficult to choose one over the other because one

is based on fact and logic while the other is built on faith and hope. That’s

exactly what the Creation theory is, beliefs in a superior supernatural being

whereas the Big Bang theory is faith in logic. It is difficult to judge two

uniquely difficult theories because both do not hold the answers, they are

merely a description of the type of person we are, and what morals and

priorities we have within. Someone who is atheist for example will believe in

the scientific version; whereas someone who has had a bad life may hold onto

their hope for a being that will one day make the world better for them, this

creature being God, and hence they will trust the theory of religion. But as I

said it’s not easy to choose between the two.

Normally when approached with a task of choice, we will subject ourselves to

view every different side to each story to make an intelligible decision based

on the truth. Unfortunately, with this topic we cannot. As a student, it is

solely based on our personal beliefs, but where have these beliefs evolved in

the first place? As we grew with each stage in our lives, we had been

influenced by an outside force. Whether it be our parents, the media, our

school systems-our ideas are truly not our own. How can one make an unbiased

opinion with all these factors to consider? It is impossible.

I grew up as a Catholic, I went to a Catholic Church all my life, my mom whom I

believe is as close to a fundamentalist as they come, taught me the Creation

story, my teachers at my Catholic schools taught me the same theory and so on.

Of course I am going to believe the Creation theory, I was brainwashed to

believe it, and even if it is the wrong choice, I will always believe it. Even

as an older pupil with an independence and a mind of my own, I still believe

this, it is my faith, I learned that it was right and hence, until my death, no

one will change my opinion (unless with the answers of course!) because once

it’s in my mind, it will never leave.

However, there is always the logical aspect to this. As you develop your mind,

you start asking yourself philosophical questions, questions that have no answer

and possible answers seem to contradict one another. This is where my other

sense of perception can alter my already existing theory. I think that although

science has not actually began creation, they continued it. I am skeptical

about the Adam and Eve theory, not that I doubt God’s abilities, but there are

gaps in that theory too. Therefore I think God created the universe, the plant

life and the animals. He created everything. But I think humans were not

derived from dust like the Bible states. I believe God created the animals

which evolved into humans. If not that, than I believe he created apes to be

the first humans but saw they were not as advanced as they could be. So He

altered them slightly and then humans were made. Possibly Adam and Eve were the

first humans to exist, the Bible states God cre!

ated them last anyway. Or possibly I’m wrong. Whatever the case may be, the

answer is out there, but no one will ever find it.
