Politicians have debated the focus of American foreign policy for decades. Of all the focal points of foreign policy, perhaps the most important should contain maintaining a strong United States dollar value. The value of the dollar determines the purchasing power of the dollar. If this value decreases dramatically, it could easily create a chain reaction in the world economy. The value of the dollar affects foreign investments, trade, and United States world power.

By keeping this value up, the United States will encourage foreign investors to have confidence in American markets. A steady dollar value attracts investment. The more investment, the stronger the economy.

With a stronger economy, the United States will involve itself in more dominant trade. With more foreign investments and trade, the United States will ensure itself as a world power and continue to hold its strong reputation. Retaining is world power position will allow for countries to respect the United States and depend more heavily on it.

If the United States dollar value decreases, the results could prove devastating. As in the Great Depression, the United States faced a rapid inflation problem. The Great Depression led to a world depression which rapidly shattered the world economy.

As a more prosperous nation, the United States must maintain the value of the dollar. A huge chunk of the world economy is dependent on the United States. Along with maintaining this, American foreign policy should also protect American jobs and American businesses overseas.

Although a seemingly realistic view of American foreign policy focal points, they are still goals politicians should strive for. Through maintaining a strong U.S. dollar, protecting American jobs, and guarding U.S. business interests in foreign countries, the United States will uphold its high standards and reputation among global society.
