The Clan of the Cave Bear starts out with a naked girl named Ayla swimming in a river. After that an earthquake occurs and she is surprised because she had never experienced one before. The earthquake kept on going, and she became even more frightened. She cried for her mother, but she was alone. The young girl looked for a place to go, where she could be safe, but since she couldn?t find anywhere to go, she ran into the woods. Ayla was alone that night, and for the very first time. She woke up the next morning screaming. She was terrified of being alone. But the day went on, and so did the next. Scared by an enormous lion, she found a cave nearby and stayed there for quite some time.
