Romeo and Juliet Journal
Act I:
Hi. I am Roberto Montague, Romeo’s cousin. This is the first of five
entries to this journal.
Many things happened today. Some of these things are that Sampson and
Gregory were talking, and then Abram and Balthasar entered the room. After
Abram started to quarrel, they started to sword fight, but then Benvolio came in
and broke up the fight. After Benvolio broke up the fight, Tybalt entered and
started to fight with Benvolio. Soon later, an Officer entered the room with
three or four citizens all armed with clubs, bills, and partisans, or spears.
Lord Capulet and Montague with their Ladies entered the room and started to
quarrel aswell, but the Prince set them straight.
Everyone, but the Montague’s and Benvolio left the room, after the
Prince said what he had to say. Montague started to ask what happened, and who
started it, Benvolio replied that the servents of his adversary did. After they
had a bit of a discussion, Romeo entered. Lord and Lady Montague left the room
to leave Romeo and Benvolio to talk. They soon talked about love, and where
they would dine. They talked some more about love then soon left the room and
the day was over.
Act II:
This is the second of five entries to this journal.
At the beginning of this day, Romeo and Benvolio began to speak to each
other, and then Romeo retires while Mercutio and Benvolio spoke about Romeo’s
love with Juliet. A bit more into the day, Romeo went to the Capulet house to
visit the fare Juliet. They met outside of Juliet’s room on the balcony and
they start to talk each other. Soon later, the nurse starts to call from within
the house for Juliet, she started to leave many times but Romeo kept
interrupting. Juliet exited and entered the balcony two or three times, but
they gave each other farewells and Juliet went into the house, and Romeo walked
off.
Friar Laurence, a Franciscan priest, was admiring the day, when Romeo
entered his cell. They begin to speak of Roseline and Romeo’s new love, Juliet.
He soon dashes off as soon as he got what he wanted. A little later, Mercutio
and Benvolio were asking each other where Romeo had gone. Coincidently, Romeo
entered minutes later. They began to talk about Romeo’s going to the Capulet
house, and what he went there for. A minute later, the nurse and her man Peter
came about. Mercutio begins to sing a song, and then he and Benvolio soon
exuent. Romeo soon rushes off, and then the Nurse pushed Peter to see if she
still has authority over him.
Juliet starts to think why the Nurse hasn’t showed up after she sent her
to meet Romeo. It had been three long hours before she returned with Peter, but
she soon sent Peter back to the gate. The Nurse’s bones are so weary from her
long journey, and she was out of breath, but Juliet needed to know what she and
Romeo talked of. The Nurse finally told Juliet the plans for her and Romeo’s
marriage.
Act III:
This is the third of five entries to this journal.
Benvolio, Mercutio and some men walk up to a public place talking about
the weather. A second later, Tybalt and others come to the public place and
begin to quarrel a bit with Mercutio and Benvolio. Another second or two later,
Romeo enters the public place. Tybalt calls Romeo a boor, a clumsy stupid
fellow and Mercutio draws his sword and calls Tybalt a ratcatcher. Tybalt draws,
they begin to fight! Romeo standing aside yells for Benvolio to beat down their
weapons, and then says for them to stop, not to have this outrage in the public
streets of Verona. Tybalt under Romeo’s arm thrusts Mercutio in, just wounding
him. Tybalt leaves and Mercutio sends for a surgeon to heal his cut. Benvolio
helps Mercutio to a house so he wouldn’t faint. Benvolio then entered telling
Romeo that Mercutio was now dead! Tybalt, the killer, then comes back to the
public place. Romeo is furious with him, so he slashes him and Tybalt dies, and
runs off. The citizens, Prince, Montague, Capulet and their Ladies come to the
brawling site and find Tybalt and Mercutio dead, the Prince is furious with this
and is determined to find the killer.
At Friar Laurence’s cell, Romeo appears. Romeo and Friar start talking
about Tybalt killing Mercutio, and Romeo killing Tybalt. They also speak of the
banishment sentence the prince gave him. Then there’s a knock from Friar’s door.
Friar gets nervous and tells Romeo to hide in his study. Friar opens the door
and it’s the Capulet Nurse, and as soon as Romeo realized this, he rose and
started to ask about his Juliet and how she is dealing with this predicament.
Romeo is so sad and angry he tries to stab himself but the Nurse quickly grasps
the daggar he was using.
During the end of the day, at a room in the Capulet house, Paris, Lady
Capulet and Lord Capulet are all talking about the wedding of Juliet and Paris.
Menwhile, in the Capulet orchard, Juliet and Romeo meet. Romeo begins to talk
about leaving and forgetting that this ever happened. The Nurse then comes in
and tells Juliet that her mother, Lady Capulet is coming, then she leaves.
Romeo then leaves wiasking for a kiss, but doesn’t get it. Lady Capulet then
enters, asking if she is awake and if she is morning her cousin’s death. Lord
Capulet and the Nurse then enter and join in on their discussion. There’s a big
disagreement with Capulet and Juliet about whom she is marrying and then Capulet
storms out telling her she will marry Paris. Juliet then decides to get a
remedy from Friar that makes her sleep for forty hours, so everyone will think
she is dead, and Romeo and Juliet would finally meet.
Act IV:
This is the fourth of five entries to this journal.
During the beginning of this day, Capulet sends his servants off to
invite guests to Juliet’s wedding. The wedding had been changed to take place
on Wednesday. Lady Capulet tries to change her husband’s mind, perhaps in
consideration for Juliet, but she is not successful. Awhile after this, Juliet
fakes her death by stabbing herself, and then drinking the remedy Friar gave her.
Wednesday morning: the Nurse comes to wake Juliet and finds her lying
motionless on the bed. She is unable to wake her and realizes she is died. She
calls for help. Lady Capulet, Capulet, Paris, and the Friar come in. Capulet
orders that the wedding preparations be converted to funeral preparations.
Act V:
This is the fifth of five entries to this journal.
I got a message today from what Romeo was doing in Mantua. Romeo has
just had a dream. His servant Balthasar arrives from Verona with the news of
Juliet’s death. Romeo decides to return to Verona. He sends Balthasar to hire
some horses, and he goes and buys poison so he can kill himself beside Juliet.
At first the apothcary refuses but then Romeo offers the large sum of forty
ducats, and then apothecary gives him the poison.
Friar John, whom Friar Laurence sent to Mantua with a letter to Romeo
explaining that Juliet is not really dead, returns to Friar Laurence with the
news that he was quarantined in Verona because of the suspicion of plague, and
he couldn’t deliver the letter. The Friar then walks to the burial vault since
Juliet is due to awaken shortly.
At the Capulets’ tomb, Paris stews flowers as a memorial to Juliet. His
Page then warned him someone is coming so Paris. Romeo and Balthasar arrive with
tools to open the tomb. Paris, seeing Romeo opening the tomb, challenges Romeo.
Paris is killed and as he dies he asks Romeo to lay his body by Juliet’s. Then
Romeo sees Juliet’s body and kisses her, drinks the poison, and falls by her
side.
A moment too late the Friar comes in. He approaches the tomb and finds
the bodies of Paris and Romeo. Juliet awakens, and asks where is her Romeo. The
Friar tries to get her to come with him, but she refuses to leave. After the
Friar leaves she picks up Romeo’s dagger and stabs herself. The Prince, Lord
Montague, and Lord Capulet enter. They have numerous of questions. The Friar
