What Is It Mean To Be A

Human Essay, Research Paper

The Old Testament begins with creation of earth and lives on earth. After that we read about creation of different creatures and creation of a man. God made man and female in his image and put him above all other creatures. God creates man from dust and put him in the Garden of Eden. He also creates woman from man’s rib. In the end man and women were expelled from Garden of Eden and become humans. The questions are what we were before we become humans and what is it means to be a human?

When God creates a man it said that He creates him in his image. That tell us that man is God a like creature. God also creates a woman in image of man and there fore woman also is God a like creature. There fore in the rest of the paper I will use word man but it will include woman too. That what make man different from other creatures. In the Garden of Eden He says to them. “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you will eat of it you shall die.” From this passage we find out about two more thing that what make man different from other creature and they had before they were expelled. First is that they will be immortal if they will not eat from tree of knowledge. Immortally is also another similarity between God and man. Second is that man didn’t possess knowledge, that make man different from God.

Another aspect we can point out from the passage above and other passages. That was said to man and to all other creatures. “Behold I have Give you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” The first passage tells us that when God creates earth He creates good and evil. And from the second passage tells us that good and evil were in balance because all creatures live in peace among them self. There were no killings since all creatures including man were vegetarians since they were told to have every green plant for food.

When man eats from the tree of knowledge of good and evil he would become even more god a like. But as it was said to man that ” for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” So when he eats of it he gains knowledge of good and evil but in the same time he died and become mortal. But at the same time staid as an image of God. The final point can be concluded from the pattern. If we were God a like before the fall, and after we sinned (i.e. ate the fruit from the forbidden tree) we become humans; therefore, the only thing that make us humans is sin. And if we can say that sin is an error then to make errors is also human thing to do.
