Moscow

Nowadays Moscow is the capital of Russia. It's the largest city of the country. The population of the city is over 10 million. Moscow lies in the valley of the Moskva river. Moscow is a political, administrative, economic, industrial, educational and cultural centre of the Russian Federation.

There're many places of interest in Moscow. There're a lot of historical monuments, museums, art galleries and theatres in the city. The Historical Museum, the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery are known all over the world. The Bolshoi, Mali and Art theatres are famous too.

The year of 1147 is usually considered to be the start of Moscow history. The development of the little village into a sprawling city became the capital of the newly established principality of Moscow. It became the national political capital during the reign of Grand Duke Ivan III Vasilyevich, who unified the Russian principalities.

It is to say that Moscow has survived many disasters. E.g. in 1812 the city was occupied by the armies of Napoleon.

The Kremlin – the oldest historical and architectural centre – is the heart of Moscow. At first the Kremlin was a wooden fort. Under Dmitry Donskoy the Kremlin was built of white stone. Red-brick walls and towers replaced the walls of white stone. The most ancient tower is the Secret one. The Saviour Tower with its Kremlin chimes is the symbol of Russia. On the territory of the Kremlin you can see old cathedrals, the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great, the palace of congresses, the Tsar’s-Cannon and the Tsar’s-Bell, the biggest cannon and bell in the world. St. Basil’s Cathedral was built in the mid-16th to commemorate the victory over the Golden Horde.

In conclusion I’d like to say that I love it and I usually visit it with great pleasure.
