We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain

unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That excerpt from the Declaration of Independence is undoubtedly the most well known and convincing sentence in American History. These abstractions such as: rights, freedom, liberty and happiness have become the foundations of American society. Life and Liberty, being equally crucial in a different way, had been an aid to many struggling people fighting against the hardships of living in an up and coming nation.

Life is defined as “Physical and mental experiences of an individual.” In the years after 1776, those experiences could very well have been a nightmare, if not for the declaration of Independence. Every citizen of the United States was given the right to live their life however they chose to. Meaning no limitations on the amount of money you made or how you chose to spend it. With this freedom people were inspired to live a successful and fulfilling life with no one to take away their dreams. Immigrants came to the United States to escape religious persecution and hardship, knowing that America was “the land of the free and the home of the brave” who are we to take away their dreams?

After the Declaration of Independence was constructed and officially in affect, the state of the union, slowly but consistently begun to change. The statue of Liberty is the symbol of the freedom we possess in the United States. Liberty is the ability to be free and go beyond normal limits. Liberty, being perhaps the most important of the unalienable rights, expresses the democratic society, where every citizen has a say in the way their country is ran. In what other land could a person chose his or her way of life and be able to do anything they want without endangering others in the process?

Many people argue that the Declaration of Independence was poorly written. It was blamed for hurting the nation, and wrongly misleads the people into believing that they were free. But, did these people stop to think what would our nation be without a written, outlined explanation of what our country is about and the rights that they are given?

The Declaration of Independence was a brilliantly constructed piece of art, which can be credited for shaping our dominate nation and responsible for putting us over the top. Without it, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
