william faulkner’s “A Rose For Emily’, and Charlotte
Gilman’s “A Yellow Wall paper” are alike in many ways.
The two women are in similar situations, both are violated by
mans strict mentality. Despite similarities in their
situations, thier tragic stories are resolved in very different
ways. Like Emily in “A Rose For Emily” the narrator of
“Yellow Wall Paper” is a privilged, protected, isolated
and controlled woman who is driven to the edge of madness
by events in her life which she was unable to control.
The values at the times in which these women lived also
had an affect on them.
