Отсчет был начат в 1978 году, когда гитарист Дэн Лоренцо собрал первый состав "хэйдсов". Начали как всегда с каверов, но к 1980 году Дэн стал пописывать собственный материал. Получалось это у него неплохо и вскоре у Лоренцо скопилось композиций на пару альбомов. Проблема была в том, что накопленный материал некуда было пристроить, чтобы донести его до широких масс.
Лишь в 1982 году появился первый сингл "Deliver us from evil", выпущенный на деньги самих музыкантов. Кстати, к тому времени состав "Hades" выглядел так: Лоренцо (гитара, бас), Пол Смит (вокал), Джо Касилли (гитара) и Том Кумбс (барабаны). Потом короткое время в роли басиста числился Энтони Витти, уступивший место Лу Сиарло (короче, четырехстрункой владели на первых порах сплошные итальяносы).
Дэн и компания продолжали плодить свои записи, но в свет вышло всего три трека, попавших на сборники "Born to metalize" и "Metal massacre VI". Такое положение дел многих не устраивало и первым не выдержал Смит, передавший микрофон Джону Калура. Тот пофронтменствовал недолго и уступил место Алану Текчио. В общем, к 1985 году из старичков в "Hades" остались только Лоренцо и Кумбс, а новыми членами коллектива стали гитарист Скотт Лепэйдж и басист Джимми Шульман. Этот состав записал вторую сорокапятку, благодаря которой группа наконец-то получила контракт от "Torrid records". В 1987-м ребята дебютировали с "Resisting success", классическим спид-металлическим альбомом.
После выхода пластинки Лепэйджа сменил Эд Фурман. С ним группа собиралась выпустить EP-шник "Stay tuned, но вместо этого на свет появился полноценный альбом, " If At First You Don't Succeed", один из лучших релизов "Hades". К сожалению, последовавшее европейское турне прошло отвратительно, все члены команды переругались между собой, и в 1989 году группа была распущена.
Алан ушел к прог-металлистам "Watchtower", а Дэн стал осваивать думовые риффы в проекте "Non-fiction". Прошло два года перед тем как старые дрязги были забыты, и в 1991-м Алан, Дэн, Том, Эд и Джимми отыграли концерт, посвященный реюниону "Hades". Запись этого действа вскоре была издана на "Grand Slamm Records", но вот очередной студийной работы фанам пришлось ждать еще целых четыре года. Большая часть материала, представленного на "Exist To Resist", была записана еще до распада команды, и возможно поэтому диск оказался несколько неудачным.
Так или иначе "Hades" вновь куда-то исчезли с металлической сцены и три года о них ничего не было слышно. Группа всплыла на поверхность в 1998-м, да не просто так, а с контрактом от "Metal blade". Состав несколько видоизменился и выглядел следующим образом: Лоренцо (гитара), Фурман (гитара), Текчио (вокал), Лепэйдж (бас) и Дэйв Лескински (ударные). Камбэк оказался удачным и команда выпустила один за другим три неплохих альбома. Единственным изменением стало возвращение Шульмана, и замена ударника на Рона Липники.
