Hurricane And Cyclones Essay, Research Paper
In the first passage titled hurricane, the writer describes extensive damage and destruction to people, buildings and surroundings. People suffer shock, horror, despair and grief when they lose their love ones, their property and experience physical and mental hurt. The after effects of the hurricane bring a loss of shelter, food, safe water for drinking and the spread of hunger and disease. The hurricane does not spare the buildings large or small. They are battered, knocked down, crack and the electricity supply cut off. Huts are flattened and even concrete buildings suffer the impact. The environment is such in chaos. The impact of the hurricane is like artillery fire on the surroundings causing the trees to be uprooted, communication line cut off and bridges swept away. The worst hit are the coastal areas.
Traffic lights dances on their wire strings, then crashed into the streets. Signs, tree limbs, garbage cans and sheet metal hurtles through the air. Windows pop, glass shatters like shrapnel. The whole city is devastated with the most ferocious part of the storm- the eyewall , a maelstorm of wind and rain raging around the hurricane s calm core. The floors in the buildings swayed like the deck of a ship. Roads have been washed out. Man and animals are killed. There is a nauseating stench in the area.
Hurricanes and cyclones can cause the government a huge sum to pay to repair what is broken down. However no amount of money can repair the damage done to hman life. The fear and sufferings the victims undergo when they lose their loved ones and their property are not easily forgotten. They are scarred for life.
