Economic means are often used to achieve political goals. There are some situations in which economic action has been used to achieve a political goal. One of these actions is the boycott of British goods led by Mohandas Gandhi.
The Salt March was to end the British salt monopoly. Gandhi led the Indians to the sea and told them not to buy salt from the British. He said that there was plenty of salt in the sea and that it belonged to India. Afterward, he was sent to prison. But others followed his lead. When the peaceful marches came to occupy a government owned saltwork, they were clubbed and beaten by police. And they did nothing to defend themselves. This action caused the British to look bad.
In conclusion, to achieve political goals you have to use economic means. The way Gandhi saw to end British rule was to stop buying their salt. A few days later, Gandhi achieved his goal. The British were going to leave India.
