4. LIMITATIONS AND KNOWN ISSUES
1) Installing MS Media Player 7 Beta and Earjam IMP on the same computer might prevent the IMP from playing streaming MP3 files. This is true even if the IMP has grabbed the .M3U file extensions.
2) Autoinsert Notification during Burning to CD
Having the CD Autoinsert notification enabled can cause problems during burning to CDs. We recommend that you disable the autoinsert notification for all of your CD drives. This is done in the following way:
- Right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties from the pull-down menu;
- Select the Device Manager tab;
- Open the CD-ROM list entry and select the CD-ROM device (you should do this for each CD-ROM device in the list);
- With the device selected click on the Properties button;
- Select the Settings tab from the properties dialog that will open;
- Uncheck the auto insert notification check box;
- Press OK and reboot the computer for the change to take effect.
5. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Where is the help file?
2. I burned songs on a CD-RW disc. It plays on my PC, but does not play on my stereo. What I am doing wrong?
3. I burned several songs to CD, It plays on my PC, but only the first track would play on my stereo.
4. The Earjam IMP does not recognize my CD burner.
5. How do I Rip CD tracks?
6. How can I remove the Earjam IMP and/or the IMP Music Jukebox?
7. The player keeps trying to make a Dial-up Connection, how do I stop it?
8. Do you play video files?
9. I tried to convert MP3 to WMA file, but the result was another MP3 file.
1. Help is accessible by pressing the F1 key, or through the drop-down contextual menu. Click with the right mouse button to view the contextual menu.
2. Many home and car stereo CD players can not read CD-RW (re-writeable) discs or low quality CD-R (write once disks). We urge you to use ordinary CD-R (write once) blank discs for compatibility with consumer CD players.
3. There are three possible reasons for this:
(a) You are using CD-RW disks. CD-RW (re-writeable) disks can not be played on most home and car stereos. Use conventional CD-R (write once) blank disks instead.
(b) You are recording multiple sessions on the same disk. Most of the older home and car stereo systems do not support multi-session disks. If you have such system, burn your CDs only once and do not add more tracks later.
(c) You are using lower-quality blank CDs which are not reliable for Audio recordings. Unfortunately not all CD-R blank discs are alike. In many cases low quality discs can not be played on consumer (home, car or portable) CD players, or even on the PC CD drive. As you might expect, the least expensive discs often present the most problems. We suggest you spend a few dollars more and buy mid-priced or high-end CD-R blank disks for best results. As a general rule of thumb gold discs work better than silver. If you burn to rewritable media (CD-RW) do not forget to erase the disc before burning. Bear in mind that CD-RW discs can not be played in most home or car stereos.
4. For list of supported devices go to earjam
5. CD ripping is called Burn to Hard Disk. (a) Insert your CD in your PC’s CD drive. (b) You’ll see the disc contents in the Earjam IMP’s Playlist display. (c) Delete any tracks you DON’T want to rip from the Playlist. (d) Then press the Burn (flames) button and double click on Burn to Hard Disk. (e) You can see more on this topic in our help in chapter Burning/Converting/Ripping/Uploading
6. In beta 406 and later you can remove from the Start menu: Start-*Programs-*Earjam-*Uninstall Earjam IMP. All versions can be removed by the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel (Start-*Settings-*Control Panel-*Add/remove Programs). Select Earjam Internet Music Player and click the Add/Remove button. If you want to remove the Jukebox (a.k.a. IMP Music Database) but keep the IMP, simply de-install as described above then do a Custom install instead of the Typical. In the Custom installation screen you will want to de-select (un-check) the Jukebox option.
7. If you un-check the “Use CDDB” checkbox (in Options-*CDDB) and do not use the EarZone (browser, “www” button) the Earjam IMP will stop trying to connect to the Internet.
8. We haven’t really “announced” this feature but we do play AVI, MPEG, and some MOV files as of beta 422.
9. In the Burn to Hard Disk dialog, click on the Advanced button and un-check (de-select) Copy Compressed Files.
6. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
