In my beliefs I truly believe that Rap, Hip-Hop, does reflect the violence in inner cities. I believe that mainly, because most rappers out there are originally from inner cities and rap about what they know, and what they see around them or experienced in life, like teen pregnancy, drugs, drive-bys, and murders. One of the biggest things are also tension, that one rapper gets from another. For example one might be raping about his “hometown,” and his or her “click,” while the other rapper might take that in an offensive way and then retaliate to that. By this it teaches people that if someone “disses” or insults your hood, or area of maybe even friends the way to do it is to pull a trigger, have them “capped” or “smoked.” Especially those young, UN-educated youngsters who don’t have any positive role models, who take these gangster rappers as a role model and then they get influenced by their lyrics. Our biggest example was the losses of two rappers, Biggy Smalls, AKA Nutorious B.I.G and another former rapper 2pac shakur, who are great examples of my thesis.
