The Mosquito Coast
In the movie ??The Mosquito Coast??, the Fox??s family dropping out and leaving America for a new life in the South American jungle, as Allie Fox took away the perfect world from his family. Then, they bought a piece of land on the banks of the Sibun river into the fictional town of Jeronimo, which started in disarray, but the Fox??s family fixed up Jeronimo with the others who had already settled there. When this town became their home with everything that they needed to survive. Everything was running fine to the people of Jeronimo, until the three prisoners with guns arrived and the prisoners were a threat to Fox??s family to leave their new home Jeronimo, since the prisoners carried weapons, so they take over the power from Allie and they can do whatever they want.
Allie was an eccentric inventor, fed up with the trials of modern civilization. This is where the creation archetype occurs when Allie created a model of ice producer, he wants to pursuit of his utopian dream and begins his mission to bring ice to the Indians to fulfill his dream. In the beginning of the movie Allie states a couple quotes, those quotes are ??We eat when we??re not hungry, drink when we??re not thirsty. We buy what we don??t need and throw away everything that??s useful. Why sell a man what he wants? Sell him what he doesn??t need! Pretend he??s got eight legs and two stomachs and money to burn. It??s wrong! Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.??, and ??There are people in New York that live on pet-food and would kill you for a quarter. You don??t dare take a walk for fear somebody will stick a knife in your ribs! Think about it?K you stay home, and they come in through the windows! Ten-year-old homicidal maniacs on every street corner!??
The Fox??s family was decide to leave America, when Allie Fox told his family that there was going to be a big battle in America, this is where the second archetype occurs on the movie. Therefore, they are leave America moves to somewhere else. However Allie just likes to be in control, since his family always listens to him. The movie mainly focuses on Allie??s life and how he loss of innocence. He took away the perfect world from his family. The family then bought a town named Jeronimo. This was when the third archetype of the movie occurred. The creation archetype, an always start in disarray; Jeronimo was just a piece of land before the Fox??s family move there. Allie had just bought the town and fixed up the town with the other people of Jeronimo. The people of Jeronimo thought of Allie as a god who came to help them to improve their life. The Fox??s family and the others begin to build houses and farming around on the town. Allie was planning to build up a 30 feet real model of the ice producer –fat boy machine, which provided ice and air conditioning to the houses through a tube. Allie was in control of Jeronimo as everyone respected and trusted him. One day, Allie and his sons heard from the Jeronimo??s people there are some more Indians which live a little further from Jeronimo so Allie comes up a mind to bring the ice to those Indians, but while they bought the ice to the Indians, the ice melted already, but when they arrive to the Indians?? town they met an Indian tribe, an inside they saw three white prisoners. Allie tried to help the three prisoners escape, but they didn??t accept his help. Later on the three prisoners somehow managed to escape and arrived at the Fox??s house. The prisoners had guns, and they asked for a place to stay. Allie tried to make them move somewhere else, but they were there to stay. All of sudden, Allie no longer had control; the prisoners had control, because they had the guns. They could ask for whatever they want, and they would get it. Allie states in the movie ??we build something up and people want to come and take it away from you.?? The loss of innocence archetype occurred again as the prisoners took away the perfect world from the people of Jeronimo as the prisoners were a threat to the people. Allie let the prisoners stay in a room inside fat boy. That night, Allie planned to run fat boy to freeze the three prisoners, however while fat boy begins to freeze the prisoners, the prisoners use their guns to destroy the inside of fat boy and try to escape from the cold air which fat boy produce. While the prisoners shooting around with guns inside of fat boy, they actually shoot some explosive material and make fat boy explode and kill their own selves. Since the houses were connecting to fat boy with tube, since fat boy exploded so which connected to the houses was on fire. In this archetype Allie tried to freeze the prisoners, but the prisoners destroy fat boy, so he lost the perfect world for everyone. The creation and loss of innocence archetypes usually begins in a perfect world. Everything was going well until the prisoners arrived. Before the explosion of fat boy, Jeronimo was just like a heaven, but after the explosion of fat boy, Jeronimo was just like a hell.
In the beginning of the story there was the creation archetype as create the small model of fat boy, then the loss of innocence archetype as the family moved away from America. And once again, the creation archetype occurred as Allie bought Jeronimo and helped the people to build houses, and provided them with other things such as air conditioning and ice, etc. Then, the loss of innocence archetype occurred again as the prisoners arrived and were a threat to Jeronimo. Allie then try to freeze the prisoners, but the prisoners actually counterattack and destroy fat boy. At first Allie wants to build the new perfect home for his family, so he gives up his original perfect home, but at the end he lost both of his perfect home, what he left is only a totally destroyed by chemical??s Jeronimo.
