The Texas Revolution
In 1830 Mexico, closed the Texas
Border fearing a rebellion as well as a
U.S. invasion. By 1835 about twenty-
five thousand Americans and about
three- thousand slaves live in Texas.
Most of the immigrants entered illegally.
In 1834 General Antonio Lopez de Santa
Anna took control of the Mexican
government. The Mexican were furious
about this. Antonio eliminated state
representation by replaced elected
representatives with his own appointees.
Many Mexican states got angry because
of the lost of state power. American
settlers and Tejanos were outraged and
rose up in a revolt. Conflicts over
immigration slavery, and state power led
to the Texas Revolution. Mexican
troops arrived at Santa Antonio to
restore Mexican Rule. One –hundred and
eighty-seven Texas rebels fought off
repeated attacks by Santa Anna’s troops.
Mexicans paid a heavy price for their
victory.
