What Price Freedom?
What does it mean to be “American?” What makes it “American?” And how does it make us “American?” American stands for the freedom, the beliefs, as well as the people that come from this great nation. The beliefs of this great nation speak every language. These beliefs stretch from the furthest beaches of Africa to the city life of New York. These beliefs are pride, freedom, and equality. American means to be proud. It means to stand up for what you believe in and to fight for it. American also means to have freedom, freedoms to do what you wish, to practice your own religious ceremonies, customs, and beliefs. With these freedoms comes a responsibility, a responsibility for your actions.
Freedom is very diverse in a way that only a few nations like the u.s. has a chance to live life the way we do. The price of freedom to me is priceless, because how can you put a tag on something that is so fare and pure. Freedom can only bring peace and prosperity allowing everyone to feel equal and mobile enough to say, preach, and follow, in what they believe. U.S. having its freedom is the only thing that is keeping our world civil, while giving us flexibility on expressing our true selves without being held to a minimal extent. If we didn t have freedom then would I be able to give you an essay on what I believe freedom is without being forced to say what our rights should be. If we didn t have our freedom I believe we would be living under a dictatorship that would probably be similar to the Hitler era. Without freedom what could you do? You couldn t do anything you believed in, you couldn t go where you wanted to, and you couldn t say what you wanted to. I feel living without freedom must feel like being a robot and doing only the few things that some sort of communistic government would command you to do. So what exactly makes you that American with the freedom? In my eyes I see that you have to be born here or come in and do what is needed to be done to gain the citizenship. I feel there should be some sort of system where as if you were a foreigner trying to gain citizenship you should either have to serve so much community service or you have to serve in the army.
Equality is the standard of American society. Before man was equal, people weren t treated right and there was slavery. With this slavery came accounts of cruelty and unnecessary violence. Without help from first hand accounts of slaves and activists, we would have never emerged from this dark era in American history. Proud American men and women joined the armed forces to serve the country that they love and protect.
