The grievances of the American people before the outbreak of the American War of Independence were very similar to those of the Upper and Lower Canadians before the rebellions. By the later 1700s, the average American had developed a belief in their innate moral superiority and possessed an abiding suspicion and mistrust of British government institutions. —–similar to reformers, making fun of the corrupt oligarchies.
Stamp act: leads to boycott of British Goods- similar to Papinaeaus boycott
Stamp Act required that special tax stamps be affixed to a variety of printed items from papers to legal documents. It aroused violent rejections in America, in some areas colonists boycoted Brit goods.
Boston Massacre: People rioted over new taxes in 1776 and the British forces killed 3 people. This is Similar to the Montreal voters riot.
East India Company was given the exclusive right to sell its tea directly to AMerican consumers without having to pay the English Export tax.
