? By Thomas Hardy And ?A View From The Bridge? Essay, Research Paper
In this piece of coursework our class had
to be split up into groups of three or four and have discussions about topics
on the two texts ?The mayor of Casterbridge? and ?A view from the bridge?. The
topics were:? Comparisons
of the two texts. ? Similarities
between the two texts. ? The
downfalls of the two main characters. ? What
makes a tragedy? My group consisted of four people, Me, Mario Noto, Liam
Noonan and David Hawthorn. We each took turns at speaking about all of the
points, trying to talk smoothly and through flowing. We had to make sure we
were able to talk to each other without shouting and without interrupting each
other as we talked. Also, we had to use Standard English, not ?slang? and we
had to constantly refer to the texts. I feel our group did this very
well; we all listened to each other allowing each person to talk, one at a
time. We were always trying to use Standard English and we referred to the
texts continuously. ????????? Our
teacher, Mr Duffy, who was relentlessly walking around the classroom overseeing
us all, was making his own assessment of us, taking notes and asking us
questions, trying to contribute to the conversation. ????????? Before this
conversational session we had studied the two texts in great depth, by doing
many essays and exercises on each of them, so we all had a good understanding
of the characters, issues, background and context of each of the texts and if
we didn?t, we surely had a good understanding of them all at the end of our
conversational session. ????????? ? ?????????

Paper Literature: The Mayor of Casterbridge Can it be said that Henchard s downfall is all due to some great error? Some may believe that it is a penance for selling Susan, but this would be to take Newson out of the equation, who, it must be said, is just as guilty of this act as Henchard. I believe that Henchard is totally blameless for his downfall, to use a bad pun that will become apparent later, it is in his nature.
