Введение
Рейс 93 United Airlines (англ. United Airlines Flight 93) — рейс авиакомпании United Airlines, потерпевший крушение 11 сентября 2001 года. Борт был захвачен авиатеррористами во главе с получившим подготовку лётчика Зиадом Джарра, участвовавшими в террористическом акте 11 сентября 2001 года.
1. Описание событий
Угонщики взяли курс на Вашингтон, предположительно собираясь врезаться в Капитолий. К этому моменту два самолёта уже врезались в ВТЦ, третий подлетал к Пентагону, и пилоты были предупреждены об опасности захвата. Пассажиры, позвонившие после захвата по мобильным телефонам и системе «аэрофон» своим родным и знакомым, узнали о событиях в Нью-Йорке и приняли решение вступить в борьбу с террористами.
В результате сопротивления пассажиров и членов экипажа, решивших захватить кабину и взять управление в свои руки (неизвестно, успели ли они проникнуть в кабину), самолёт потерял управление и потерпел крушение. Самолёт упал на поле в юго-западной части Пенсильвании, около города Шенксвилла (Shanksville) в 10:03:11. Место падения находится приблизительно в 240 км к северу от Вашингтона. Все находившиеся на борту погибли, на земле пострадавших не было. Впоследствии были обнаружены бортовые самописцы самолёта (в отличие от рейсов, врезавшихся в башни ВТЦ, самописцы которых не были найдены).
2. Количество пассажиров
Заполненность рейса 93 «Юнайтед Эйрлайнс» Нью-Арк — Сан-Франциско 11 сентября 2001 года была очень низкой[1] и составила 37 пассажиров (включая четверых террористов) при вместимости 182 посадочных места (20,33 %).[1] Обычная средняя заполняемость данного рейса по вторникам за предшествующий трёхмесячный период — 52,09 %.[2][3] При этом нет фактов манипуляции числом посадочных мест либо приобретения дополнительного числа неиспользованных билетов на рейс.[4]
3. Известность
Подвиг пассажиров получил большой резонанс. Многие из них были посмертно награждены, о полёте снят художественный фильм «Рейс 93» (2006), а слова пассажира Тодда Бимера перед штурмом — «Навалились» (англ. Let’s roll!) — стали лозунгом борьбы с террором.
