& the Machine" и "The word engine". В 1966 году Крейн и студент факультета философии Артур Браун замутили проект "The crazy world of Arthur Brown".
Альбом "The Death Walks Behind You" на восемь недель завис на двенадцатом месте в английских чартах, а выпущенный в начале 1971 года сингл "Tomorrow Night"/"Play The Game" достиг одиннадцатого места, где находился целых три месяца. В 1972-м к "Atomic rooster" присоединился вокалист Пит Френч, и в этом составе "Петухи" выпустили 3-й альбом, "In hearing of...".
Взяв еще двух бэк-вокалисток - Дорис Трой и Лайзу Страйк и перейдя на "Dawn Records", коллектив обратился к музыке соул и фанк, выпустив два "легкомысленных" сингла – "Stand By Me"/"Never To Lose" и "Save Me"/"Close Your Eyes", которые, естественно, провалились. Выполненные в подобной стилистике альбомы "Made In England" и "Nice'n'Greasy" вызвали недоумение поклонников, и репутация группы сильно пошатнулась.
В 1979 году Винсент Крейн, вновь встретившись с Брауном, записал с ним совместный альбом "Faster then the speed of light". Взамен ушедшего Бейкера одноименный альбом и пару синглов, в том числе "Do You Know Who’s Looking For You", музыканты записали с барабанщиком Престоном Хейманом.
