Перед заключением контракта с этим лейблом по предложению Массе вывеску поменяли на "Hypocrisy". Первая пластинка, "Penetralia", представляла собой экстремально-прямолинейный дэт. Уже на следующий год "Hypocrisy" стали одной из самых популярных команд в кругах металлического андеграунда.
Второй альбом, "Osculum Obscenum", записывался в составе квартета, поскольку Остенберг покинул группу. На его место не стали никого брать, а все гитарные партии взял на себя Тагтгрен. За выходом пластинки последовали туры в компании с "Cannibal corpse" и "Deicide". Во время этих гастролей у Броберга обнаружились проблемы со здоровьем, и он был вынужден расстаться с коллективом. Снова никого со стороны не стали брать, а просто Петер взвалил на себя еще и обязанности вокалиста. В новой роли он дебютировал на мини-альбоме 1994 года "Inferior devoties".
Последовавший за этим релизом полноформатник "The Fourth Dimension" стал самой лучшей работой "Hypocrisy". Атмосферные клавиши в сочетании с гружеными риффами и брутальным вокалом производили на слушателей неизгладимое впечатление. Промоушен этой пластинки группа провела в Мексике и Португалии. В 1995-м Петер основал свою студию "Abyss", в которой музыканты записали очередной альбом, "Abducted".
На следующий год Тагтгрену стало тесно в рамках "Hypocrisy", и он сначала гастролировал в качестве гитариста вместе с "Marduk", а затем занялся созданием своего сольного проекта "Pain". Кроме этого в компании со своими коллегами Соке и Хедлундом он основал блэковую команду "The abyss". Но деятельность "Hypocrisy" не сворачивалась, и в 1997-м музыканты выдали вполне качественную пластинку "The final chapter". Судя по названию, этот релиз должен был стать последним в дискографии группы, тем более что Петер хотел полностью сосредоточиться на "Pain". Однако положительная реакция на альбом слушателей и прессы заставили Тагтгрена изменить свое решение.
В 1999-м наряду со студийной работой "Hypocrisy" на свет появился первый концертник коллектива, "Destroys Wacken", записанный на популярном фестивале в Германии. Несмотря на сильнейшую загруженность Тагтгрена (а он успел встрять еще в один проект, "Lock up"), альбомы "Hypocrisy" продолжали выходить и дальше, а в 2002-м состоялись и продолжительные европейские гастроли группы.
