Winter is coming;
it’s starting to snow.
The colors are falling
and the grass will not grow.
The sky is not blue,
but painted with gray.
The birds are not singing,
but flying away.
The waves on the coast
look ferociously fierce
As they pummel the breakwall
with each pounding pierce.
The cold air will bite
if you stop to stand still;
This harsh winter weather
has potential to kill.
The sky is now roaring
and hailing a shower,
While letting loose winds
at ninty miles per hour.
I strongly suggest
that you stay from the lake
Less you are foolish,
for life you+ll forsake.

Sonnet 73 Analysis Essay, Research Paper In “Sonnet 73″, the speaker uses a series of metaphors to characterize what he perceives to be the nature of his old age. This poem is not simply a procession of interchangeable metaphors; it is the story of the speaker slowly coming to grips with the finality of his age and his impermanence in time.In the first quatrain, the speaker contrasts his age is like a “time of year,”: late autumn, when the “yellow leaves” have almost completely fallen from the trees and the boughs “shake against the cold.” Those metaphors clearly indicate that winter, which usually symbolizes the loneliness and desolation, is coming.

Poetry Essay, Research Paper This poem was very hard to make an argument for to tell what it means. The poem deals with the idea of depression, hurt, weighted choices, and death. It is the most uplifting of poems, but I don t think Emily Dickinson was trying to make it that way. She uses the idea of winter to represent darkness, the comparison of the weight of a choice the heft of Cathedral tunes.
