Is Hypnosis Useful Essay, Research Paper
Hypnosis is a state of intense relaxation and concentration, in which the mind becomes remote and detached from everyday cares and concerns. In this relaxed state the subconscious part of the mind is best able to respond creatively to suggestion and imagery. It can focus on the things you wish to change and on the ways you can best do so, free from analytical or anxious thoughts. You are, however, not asleep nor are you unconscious. You are in an altered or alternative state of consciousness in which you ‘let things happen’ through your subconscious mind rather than trying to make them happen with your conscious mind. Because you are deeply relaxed, the suggestions given to you by the hypnotist will be acted upon more easily by the subconscious.
Most of the people don’t really know much about hypnosis and people who know about it have different views when they think about hypnosis. One of the main doubts people have is whether it works or not. I agrue that it works and it is really helpful for all. I have good knowledge and background in this subject as I took a course in hypnosis for two years under the guidance of Predeep Agarwalla and I have read a great deal on in it. I have been using hypnosis from past three years and I would like to tell a personal experience that clearly demonstrates the way hypnosis has affected my life.
In India we consider 10th grade as a school. I came out with an average grade from school. In the summer holidays I went to the hypnosis workshop for two days to learn more about the mind control. Before, in my 10th grade I was always scared of exams because if I don’t get good grades, my mom would be really barmy at me. Now after learning hypnosis I usually ease my angst. However, I was not feeling the tension about my exams. I did not study well which let my results fall. I came out with 58% out of my junior college. As this happened I explained the entire story to dad. He guided me how to use self-hypnosis techniques as I followed his words. The result I passed out with a 4.0 GPA in the first of college. With all this experience I would like to go ahead and give some more evidence that it not only worked for me but it works for all.
I always wondered what difference it would make for a 12 year old kid if he/she uses hypnosis. Actually it is a really good method that we can create certain interest in the child mind, which will help in the future. If the child is not interested in the subject, say math, and he is not performing well at all but he likes some subject like science we can duplicate the interest of science to math and this it will be really helpful for the child to get his/her grade up. It is not only for children but it can be done to all of us we just need to what we want to change.
In the article “Nonmdicinal treatment of pain gains adherents” which was published in www.cnn also tells that a patient named Mehboob Shiviji who was suffering from muscular joint disease that leaves him in constant pain. He tells that he manages the pain through hypnosis with out taking extra medication. Mehboob doctor Lebovitz also says that hypnosis does work for everybody. . He mentions that hypnosis can be used at any age not only to control pain but also to control our emotions.
In the article “Hypnosis for Seniors” written by Dr. Bryan M. Knight, he says that it is useful for seniors a lot. Hypnosis can help in getting a good night’s sleep, conquering a phobia, controlling pain, dealing with disease, reduction of medications, overcoming guilt, defusing disturbing memories, and improving relationships with family members are some of the areas where we can use hypnosis. He says that research has gone into the role of hypnosis in combating disease, and hypnotherapy is very effective in helping senior’s, people over age 60. He not only tells but he also gives examples how it was useful for people over 60. Some seniors don’t see their adult children, or the grandchildren, very often because they live a long way away and the seniors are afraid to fly. I would like to give one of the examples given in this article. Amelia is 70 years old and she did not visit her grand children because she way frightened to fly. But after three intensive hypnosis sessions with a psychotherapist she was no longer afraid to fly. Now Amelia even enjoys flying — and sees the grandkids much more often. What Amelia learned, with the help of hypnosis, was to be calm and relaxed and to know, deep within that she is always in control of herself.
Even though hypnosis works for all ages it does not work if there is no effort put into it. “There is no magic by which any of us, without effort, can in one fell swoop fix everything that is wrong with us,” says Dr. Charles E. Henderson in his article “Good things to know about Hypnosis.” In this essay he says that it is not possible to learn hypnosis without practice. I have seen many people who came to classes along with me and never practice it so it never worked for them. Self-hypnosis will repay you for your effort.
It shows that hypnosis works for young, adult and old people. It also shows that it is working for improving skills, pain control, over coming phobia and so on. Hypnosis has been working from when it was known to humans and it was working for all people. There is no doubt that it will work for all people but it need time and for some people it works in a short period of time, for some it may take a little more time. There are endless possibilities where you can use hypnosis and what I want to say is that every person will get several advantages through hypnosis so every person must gain knowledge in hypnosis.

This is a place filled with mysteries and contradictions. It is almost impossible to regard a person’s brain without an involuntary tingle of curiosity: what lay deep within the coralline gray whorls of this small, delicate kingdom? What happens along its intricate hallways, within the fine cerebral network of axons and dendrites, whose tiny, myriad sparkings are the physical basis of thought? What thoughts and unique ideas does this lump of flesh hold in its chambers so as to subvert the mind of its owner and warp his will to pure deadly evil or to pure luscious love and joy? What minotaur lurks in these vast chambers of power and knowledge? Who shall finally be the one to find the thread that will help
