Background
Market study has shown that the number of mobile users is exceeding the number of PC users. Some of the industry leaders have created a forum to evolve an industry standard for providing internet access to users over wireless access. This has led to the specification of the Wireless Access Protocol standards.
WAP Model
The WAP standards were defined keeping in consideration the constraints of the wireless networks including lower bandwidth, higher latency and lower connection stability compared to wired networks. Also the constraints on the mobile devices have been taken into account, these include less powerful processors, low memory, limited power and small displays.
