As Pablo Picasso and George Braque collaborated together a new style of painting was born. The style was described as being able to show objects in multiple viewpoints. Being developed in Europe between 1900 and lasting through W.W.I ending in 1920. The life of this new style not long lived, but having a lasting impact. On having this impact on the art world the art of Cubism would affect all 20th century art.
The mentors of the cubist school follow the dictum of the French post-impressionist Paul C zanne, “Everything in nature takes its form from the sphere, the cone, and the cylinder.” The most common type of cubism is an abstract and analytical approach to a subject, in which the artist determines and paints the basic geometric solid, of which the subject is composed, in particular the cube, cone, or the basic plane that reveal the underlying geometric form.
In another type of cubist painting (synthetic cubism), viewpoints of an object from different angles, not simultaneously visible in life, are arranged into a single composition. In neither type of cubism there are no attempts to reproduce in detail the look of natural objects.
Musical instruments figure prominently in cubist portraits and still lifes because they seemed favorable subjects for geometric dissection. To avoid simple, naturalistic, and emotional effects the early analytical, cubists used mainly restrained gray, browns, greens, and yellows. Later after 1914 in the synthetic cubist period many cubists introduced brighter colors into their painting. Cubism is important in the history of most Western art as a revolutionary, passing style that marked the beginning of abstract and nonobjective art.
