” 1,2,3?6,7,8″ Ms A counts the dance’s pounding beat as her dancer’s practiced for hours. Ms A, an experienced dance instructor who has a passion about the art of dance owned a ranch called ” The One and Only Dance Community.” The Dance Community was 50 acres of dance rooms, work out facilities, cafeterias and dorms which housed the dancers. Ms A, a very demanding dance instructor expected nothing less than perfection of her students. This perfection required complete control over the dancer’s lives. The clothes the dancers wore, what they could eat and where they could visit the people they associated with out side of the Dance Community. Perfection demanded a price?that both Ms A and the dancer’s had to pay in order to achieve the levels of dance Ms A sought.
Well the dancers grew tired of Ms A’s demands and her control over everything the dancers did. Ms A’s dance officers … Jessica, Megan, Kara and Jill were the dance leaders and were looked up to by all of the other dancers. They were role models because of their experience and their understanding of the challenges of dancing for Ms A. These challenges helped form a new dance community that the dancers are enjoying today.
One day after the long complicated practice the officers went back to their cabins. They were tired of the dreadful treatment they had been receiving from Ms A. They never thought that dancing would become such a unhappy experience. The officers knew that something had to change, not for just themselves, but also for the dancers they lead. They planned such a change late one night after Ms A. left for a party with her friends.
Ms A left practice and the officers and dancers limped back into the auditorium where they previously had practiced. The meeting commenced. Jessica, the head officer rose from her chair and suggested that they needed to unite in order to stop Ms A’s demanding and controlling ways. All of the dancers understood and went along with Jessica’s suggestion. With the full support of all of the dancers, Jessica explained the strategy of the changes that had to come about in order for the Dance Community to survive Ms A’s controlling ways. The dancers listened intently as Jessica described Ms A’s normal routine. Ms A frequently went out with her friends at night. Their plan of attack would be on one such night after Ms A left the Dance Community. Their plan was to secure all of the entrances to the Dance Community. This would prevent Ms A from re-entering after she left for the evening. All the dancers agreed on this plan and dreamed of the possibilities of the “New” Dance Community.
Megan then stood up and suggested that without Ms A’s controlling presence they could abolish the need for officers in the New Dance Community. They were excited about the expected freedoms they would experience without the dreaded Ms A.
“Dancing with your heart is what dancing should be all about,” the officers explained. Megan further explained how they were to raise money for the New Dance Community. They were going to make instructional videos and sell them to dancers outside of their community.
The dancers anxiously waited for the Ms A to leave for the evening so they could implement their plan. Ms A left with her friends for the evening and the plan to begin the New Dance Community started.
As Ms A returned that evening unaware of dancers plan. She approached the main gate, the dancers watching from a distance could see the frustration mounting on her face. The hid behind the gate out of view and witnessed Ms A’s growing discontent of being locked out of the ranch. Ms A started yelling and screaming at the top of her voice and threatened all within earshot of the consequences of not letting her back inside. The dancers still hidden were not influenced at all by all of her threats. Instead, they stood up from their hidden stature and started walking back to the dorms with excitement of all the changes that were to come.
Their dreams of a new life of freedom from Ms A had begun. Soon they all went to bed knowing that a lot of work lay in front of them if they were to succeed with their plan.
Late the next morning all of the dancers met in the cafeteria for breakfast. The officers announced their resignation from officer status and that everyone was now free to do what they wanted to do. They could eat what they wanted to eat. Wear the clothes they wanted to wear, associate with the people the wanted to associate with. They could not believe that this day would ever arrive. The freedom they always wanted to have.
After the three hour breakfast, without the discipline that Ms A applied they left on their own way to their own dance practice. Some of the dancers stayed to produce the instructional videos they were to sell. The other dancers who were not there started enjoying the art of dancing which they could not do while under Ms A’s leadership.
Days and nights passed while the dancers enjoyed their new found freedoms. However, without the discipline, things started to unravel fast.
First, some of the dancers were lazy and did not want to exercise, dance or help with the videos. Some would not even get out of bed in the morning. They had become lazy. Some started gaining weight and others were losing their dance skills that they had painfully learned under Ms A’s instruction. In addition, no one wanted to buy videos from lazy, overweight and unskilled dancers. Their money quickly began to dry up.
The former officers gathered in their room one night and agreed that they had made a mistake and that freedom came at a price. They admitted that they needed a person who would instill the discipline and guidance that they would need to be a successful dancers. They did not want to see all of their hard work go down the drain. They decided to have another meeting.
The next night at dinner, Kara stood up and informed the dancers that things had to change. Some of the officers resented what Kara had to say, they liked being lazy but most understood the need for the change. The dancers agreed they needed help once more. Their solution was to call Ms A back and apologize to her for their insubordination and that they needed her discipline in order to be the successful dancers they wanted to be.
Three months passed with Ms A back at the helm. All of the dancers appreciated her discipline and grew to understand why it was needed. All of the dancers had a new sense of freedom. A freedom to become the best dancers in the country. They decided to change their name to go along with the new attitude. ” The Land of the Strutters ” became their name. Now the Strutters were free to become the best dancers that they dreamed they could be.
