Thomas Mann
Thomas Mann wurde am 6. Juni 1875, in L beck, Deutschland geboren. Sein Vater war ein wohlhabender Korn-H ndler. Seine Mutter, ein Musikerin, wurde in Brasilien geboren. Er war ein von f nf Kindern. Er und sein lterer Bruder, Heinrich, schrieben, als sie jung waren. Heinrich wurde auch ein gesund-bekannter Schriftsteller. Als Thomas 15 Jahren alt war, sein Vater st rbt und seine Mutter zog nach M nchen. Um 1900 Thomas Mann schreibt seinen ersten Roman, “Buddenbrooks”. Die Geschichte geht um eine Familie zu seines hnlich. In 1905 heiratete Mann Katja Pringsheim, die Tochter eines M nchen Universit t Professors. Sie hatten sechs Kinder. Seine Frau war in einem Tuberkulose-Sanatorium in den Alpen, es inspirierte Mann, “Den Magischen Berg” zu schreiben, der im Jahre 1924 ver ffentlicht wird. In 1929 gewann Mann den Nobelpreis f r Literatur. Mann und seine Frau waren weg von Deutschland auf einem Urlaub in 1933, als Adolph Hitler kam, um anzutreiben. Erika, ihre lteste Tochter, trug ihnen durch Telefon auf, nicht zur ckzukommen. Die Nazis verbieten Mannes Arbeiten als un-deutsch. Sie stahlen sein Haus und seine Staatsangeh rigkeit. Die Kinder entkamen, und wohnten in Frankreich und der Schweiz bis 1938. Dieses Jahr machte Princeton Universit t Mann zu einem Lehrer von Geisteswissenschaften, und der Manns bewegte sich in die Vereinigten Staaten. Sie wohnten in Kalifornien in 1941. In 1944 wurde Mann ein B rger der Vereinigten Staaten. W hrend zweite Weltkrieg opponierte er die Nazis. Nach dem Krieg besuchte Mann beide Ost und Westdeutschland und bekam viele ffentliche Ehren. In seiner Heimat in Santa Monica schrieb Mann “Josef dem Versorger”, dies beendete sein Buch “Josef und Seine Br der”. Er dachte es seine beste Arbeit. Nach 15 Jahren in den Vereinigten Staaten kam der Manns nach Europa zur ck. Mann starb in seiner Heimat nahes See-Z rich in der Schweiz an Aug. 12, 1955.
