Revolution Essay, Research Paper
The French had many problems during the American Revolution. These problems started when the French agreed to give the Americans supplies. The Americans thanked them but the French did the wrong thing for their country. They gave a lot of their supplies that they needed at home to the Americans. This loss of supplies increased the debt and led to the French Revolution. The French Revolution was more extreme then the American Revolution because the country of France was not just being confronted by Britain, they were being confronted by Europe. This happened around the year of 1789. In 1789, the French revolted against their king, Louis the 16th. The surrounding countries were getting a little anxious because this was the first revolt against the monarchy, and the other country kings, fearing this revolution, sent armies to stop this revolution. Can you believe the American Revolution caused all this?
The beginning of the American Revolution was hard on the Americans. The majority of the colonies wanted to become independent, but they didn?t have the weapons, or the number of soldiers that the British had. When the British found out about their plan to revolt, they sent troops to issue Marshall law, and to take the guns away from the colonists. Upon their arrival to Concord, Massachusetts, the British found and destroyed the Americans? guns. After this was accomplished, the British ordered a retreat. While in retreat, they found minutemen, the colonists, armed and prepared for battle. The minutemen seriously harassed the British army, killing over 250 men. They fought off the British in what was the first victory for the Americans. Right after this, the provisional congress in Massachusetts, sensing the British coming ordered 13,600 soldiers to be trained. To totally drive out the British, men all over the New England area joined the march to help take back Boston. They freed Boston, but only for a short time. After this outrage, the British launched an assault. This battle was called the Battle for Bunker Hill, even though the battle was actually fought on Breeds hill. This battle showed that the poorly armed Americans could stand up to persistent British attacks. The first British assault was fruitless. So was the second, but the third was successful by the British at an outrageous cost. The British had lost nearly 1,000 men.
After this battle, Ben Franklin was sent to France
Ben Franklin was sent to France as a foreign ambassador to discuss a peace treaty. This treaty would get the French to declare war on the British. The treaty agreement was successful and the Americans got much-needed weapons. With these new weapons the Americans could now fight hand to hand against the British, or at least, that is what they thought. At first, the superior leadership of the British gave them the upper hand. They took back most of the New England. It wasn’t until they defeated the British at the battle of Saratoga. This was the turning point of the war. Soon after this, they took back Philadelphia and were now on the verge of knocking the British out of America for good. The final battle between the Americans and the British took place at Yorktown. This was the conclusion of the American Revolution. In 1781, the Americans drove the British out of the colonies and forced them give the Americans their independence.
The successful victories were all possible because of the French. It was their supplies that helped the Americans drive out the British. These supplies of course weren?t free. The contribution of these supplies put a huge dent in the French economy. This dent eventually led to an economic breakdown in France and was said to be the main cause for the riots they had. Eventually these riots turned into a rebellion. Soon the king, Louis the 16th, got his head was chopped of and the revolution began. The revolution started gradually, seeing that all the nations wanted to stop France from succeeding, but France soon gained control over their country.
After gaining power over their country, they gained power over a lot of Europe. This era was called the Age of Napoleon. Napoleon had a strategic mind, which made him a brilliant military leader. After leading his men in taking back France, he went after Europe. Once he conquered a great deal of Europe, he went after Russia. This decision would lead to his downfall. When he would go to attack, Russia would retreat, burning their land as they went back. Finally, when Napoleon?s army reached Moscow, Russia?s capital, they found a burned up deserted capital. Knowing that winter was coming, Napoleon ordered a retreat. The call for retreat was too late. His troops were not fit to take on the harsh winters of Russia. So while he was in retreat, the Russian army attacked him. Since they knew how to survive the icy winters of their country, they easily defeated the French, killing hundreds of thousands of the French soldiers. The French army escaped Russia with less then 100,000 men. When Napoleon arrived at his empire, it was in shambles. Most of the states had revolted against his rule. The state leaders wanted him dead, but instead he was banished.
The American Revolution started out with the people wanting to be independent. The French Revolution started out when there was riots in the street, and they attacked a fort to free the prisoners who didn?t pay there taxes. The French people thought the taxes were to high and did not want to pay them. All revolutions start out with what the people want. The people are the basis of a country or a colony. The people have to agree with everything or they will do something to change it to what they want.
