Equality In Races Essay, Research Paper
EQUALITY IN RACES
I love being Puertorican and fdo think that we should always be proud of who we are,
Hispanics. Also is a great thing and a good oportunity to be citizens of the United States. The problem is that we?ll always be rejected in some states and from people that think that we?re in the states because we want to take their land, works, etc. and that?s not true. We want to have the same opportunities of jobs, families, housing as any other citizen of the United States. We, the ?rejected people? from a ?superior race? want and have worked for a dream, equality, that we defenetely deserve.
Today, we are having many problems that takes us back in time to 1898 when the United States took this small island from Spain. At that time we didn?t know what was best for us, we just let ourselves in this ?democratic dream? the United States offered. Even now we don?t know what we want or who we are. For many people it?s strange to be citizen from another place that?s not the one you where born. And it?s more strange that if you don?t want that citizenship because you want your own, in our case we can?t have our citizenship as puertoricans, it?s not a legal process. Many people have done it, but like for example last year they were prohibited to vote in our elections. In my opinion I don?t think that?s faire, because your own country is leaving you apart from all decisions being made, only because you didn?t accept an american cititizenship.
This situation, and every situation refering our status right now is really bad. There has been a progress because of time and society, but we?re too far for what we really need
2
in our lives as puertoricans. The most important thing is to always keep an identity of who we are, and no matter if we?re citizens of the United States or not, we?ll always be puertoricans and I stilll love being who I am.
