Stereotyped Essay, Research Paper
Two years ago, I was 5 feet 3 inches in height. I had long, black hair. And I was very skinny. Upon seeing me, people assumed that I was na ve, innocent, shy and quiet Filipino girl. They were right! However, these all changed last year. Being the timid, non- outgoing person that I was, I wanted to try new and different things. For once in my life, I didn t want to be responsible or innocent or na ve looking. I needed a change. I had my haircut short, streaked with bright burgundy. I also started to go clubbing every night. I tried drinking and smoking. I even tried marijuana one night in Griffith Park. However, the transformation I underwent was not me. My friends and I were not used to my exciting new lifestyle. At Goodwill Industries, where I used to work, my co-worker Lisa, once told me, Why are you doing that (smoking marijuana). You re every parent s dream. You re responsible, well -mannered and polite to everyone. I could not believe that you want to waste your bright future that lies ahead of you just because of that thing. Finally, I woke up when my little sister Kathrina told me that I should not be doing those things. She even threatened to tell my parents. Thank God I listened.
In my case, I was stereotyped as a good, little Filipino girl. It may not found terribly bad but there were negative effects. Because of my curiosity, I took a chance doing unpredictable things. No one knows what to expect from me. Therefore, it would be wise for people to not stereotype other people or to assume things about them.
