Carpe Diem
Seize the Day
The theme Seize the day was portrayed in many ways in the dead poets society. In this touching film Mr.Keatings urges his kids to seize the day. Each one will seize the day in a different way and it may have drastic results.
Mr.Keatings seize the day in many ways one was he didn’t teach the traditional old way he took them outside and played and interacted with them. He inspired them and urged them to seize the day!, to
seek out their dreams and to believe in themselves. Well it always didn’t work and caused some problems. He risked it with administrators and did it his way. That got him fired. He tore the pages out of the books and showed he wasn’t scared and always wanted to seize the day.
Neil seizes the day by killing his self. His father does not allow Neil to decide his own future, resulting in Neil killing his self. Neil couldn’t take it any more his father had him on a leash and Neil snapped and killed his self with his dads gun. He didn’t take the rational way and seized the day in the words of Mr.Keatings. Carpe Diem isn’t always the right thing to do.
Knox Seize the day by getting the girl he had a crush on after so many tries. He was the strongest and most assertive one. He tried to get the girl but he got beat up by her boyfriend but he kept trying and he got her at last and showed he seized the Day. I believe he really seized the day out of them all by getting Chris.
As you can see Carpe diem isn’t the best thing to do. But sometimes it works as in Knox’s problem. I think it was a nice story which really touched me. And showed what it means to seize the day.
