The Three Musketeers
In The Three Musketeers is a very good book. It is about 4 heroes who save the day like in most heroic books. They are successful in defeating the evil because of the heroic deeds of d Artagnan.
D Artagnan is introduced to the three musketeers by incidentally insulting all of them. They each challenge him to a duel for what he has done to them, but while he is dueling with one of the musketeers, one of the cardinal s guards threatens to arrest them because there is a law in which says there is no dueling. D Artagnan and the musketeers join forces and drive the guards away. Then, d Artagnan becomes friends with the musketeers. There first mission together is to rescue d Artagnan s landlord s wife, because she has been kidnapped by the cardinal s guards for information she contains. They were successful in rescuing her, but then they see the landlord s wife with the queen of Spain s secret lover, the duke of Buckingham. She gave him a gift of twelve diamond tags. The cardinal finds out that the queen has given the duke of Buckingham the diamond tags, he asks the king to give a ball and demand her to wear the gift he gave her, the twelve diamond tags. Milady is ordered by the cardinal to steal 2 diamond tags, from the 12, and use it as blackmail. Immediately, the three musketeers and d Artagnan go to London to help the queen. When d Artagnan gets there, without the musketeers because they stayed behind fighting the cardinal s spies, Buckingham finds out that he has lost 2 of the diamond tags. So he tells his jeweler to make 2 exact copies of the diamonds. Thus, Buckinghams gives him the copies, he gives it to d Artagnan, and he takes it to Paris to give to the queen. Everything goes as planned.
D Artagnan leaves Paris, because he was in danger of the cardinal s spies, and goes looks for the musketeers. He finds all of them exactly where they were left at. Then, they found out that they needed to buy equipment for the king s military mission. None of the musketeers have any money, so they needed to find a way to get some. D Artagnan sees Milady by accident while he is walking around, and he is very attracted to her. He fights a man who was stalking her and wins, but does not kill him. The man thanks him for not killing him and introduces d Artagnan to Milady. Milady s maid gives him love notes that Milady is writing to Count de Wardes, a man who d Artagnan had injured earlier in the novel. (Milady s maid gives him the note because she falls in love with him.) In the note, it said that Milady was going to try to kill d Artagnan. He was furious because of this, so he forged de Wardes name on a return note, and it said that he wanted to make love to her in the dark. He did, and she did not find out it was him. She was so pleased by d Artagnan s loving that she gave him a sapphire ring surrounded with diamonds. D Artagnan was so mad because she said that she was going to kill him again, that he responded to another letter that she wrote to de Wardes. Milady is so mad at de Wardes letter, that she asks d Artagnan to kill him, and she would sleep with him if he does it, but she sleeps with him before he does it. D Artagnan reveals to her that it was not the first time he slept with her, that he took de Wardes place.
Milady tries to kill him with a knife, and they struggle in bed, and Milady cuts her gown, revealing a mark meaning that Milady is a convict. He escapes with the help of Kitty. D Artagnan tells Athos the story, and it turns out that Milady was his wife. Well, with the ring that Milady gave d Artagnan, they bought the equipment needed for the mission. The three Musketeers are not able to go to the mission because they had to attend the king became ill. D Artagnan went with his group. Milady attempted to kill him with 2 assassins, but they failed, and then they tried again, and they failed one more time. She also tried to poison him with wine, saying that the three musketeers sent it. He did not drink it, and the person who did, died. While the musketeers were back aiding the king, they run into the cardinal. He was on his way to meet with Milady. The musketeers went with the cardinal to meet with Milady, but they listened through a broken pipe in the place she was staying. They learned what she was going to do, and that they had a plan to tell d Artagnan and Buckingham what she was going to do. She was going to kill Buckingham. She escapes to France and kills d Artagnan s landlord s wife. When d Artagnan and the musketeers went to rescue the landlord s wife, it was too late. She was dead. They tracked Milady down, and tried her, and killed her by beheading her. When they told the cardinal what Milady did, he makes d Artagnan the lieutenant of the King s musketeers.
In conclusion, The Three Musketeers is a very good book. It ia about many heroic deeds done by the good in the book. Of course, teh good guys win, like in all books, but it is still a very good book.
