Группа сформировалась в конце 1981 года, когда Чибон "Чюи" Баттерман и Том Нимейер переехали в штат Вашингтон из Калифорнии. Духовную (точнее - бездуховную) пищу обоих школьников составляли исключительно хардкоровые песнопения "Black Flag" и "Circle Jerks". Они жили где-то в 80 километрах друг от друга, и единственным панком в округе, с которым Чюи смог познакомиться, был четырнадцатилетний Дана Коллинз, который умел отыграть целый альбом " Sex Pistols" на барабанах. Ребята организовали трио "No Reason", где Том играл на гитаре, Дана барабанил, Чюи орал в микрофон, а вот про басиста как-то забыли. Зимой 1981 года Чюи переключился на басуху, а Том заголосил.
Тем временем команду сначала переименовали в "Gang Green" (не путать с одноименным коллективом из Бостона) а затем в "The Accused". По музыке получалось нечто среднее между "Black Flag" и британским Oi!. Вначале в группу напросился петь Джон Далин, который пробыл в банде с лета 1982 по май 1984 года. Группа потихоньку отрепетировала первый хардкоровый материал, и в конце 1982-го на них приехал поглазеть Том Пиг из "Poison Idea".
"Accused" показались ему столь любопытными, что он рискнул включить их в программу концерта "Fartz" и "Poison Idea" в Портлэнде в ноябре 1982-го. Так, хардкорщикам на радость, случилось самое первое шоу "Accused". Затем наступила эпоха нерегулярных клубных выступлений, в одном из которых команда разогревала никому тогда неизвестных "Replacements". Постепенно группа избавлялась от политическо-панкового имиджа и становилась более металло-ориентированной. Недовольный этим Джон Далин покинул коллектив, и на его место встал Блэйн "Фарт" Кук.
За период участия Далина в "Accused" была записана куча демо и один альбом, выпущенный тиражом 500 экземпляров и называвшийся "Please Pardon Our Noise - It Is A Sound Of Freedom". Это был сплит-диск - на второй стороне фигурировала группа "Rejectors". Джерри из последней команды впоследствии вместе с Блэйном стал участником "Black Nasty". С новым составом "Accused" записали EP "Martha Splatterhead" и издали его на собственном лейбле "Condor" тиражом опять около полутысячи копий.
Песни с этого мини-альбома вместе с еще более свежим материалом составили впоследствии дебютный лонгплей "The Return Of Martha Splatterhead" - злейший хардкоровый альбом с металлическими гитарами, торпедными скоростями и предсмертным вокалом покалеченного птеродактиля. Запись альбома происходила в следующей конфигурации: Блэйн - вокал, Алекс "Маггот Брэйн" Сиббальд - бас, Дана – ударные, Том - гитара. Чюи к тому времени был изгнан за дурную привычку баловаться наркотой. Кстати, пагубная страсть довела его до ручки, и в 1996 году он покончил жизнь самоубийством. После записи "Martha's Maddest Story Ever Told" из группы вылетел Дана - из соображений творческой целесообразности, и в результате из оригинального состава остался лишь Том.
Группа все более трэш-металлизировалась, а текучесть кадров продолжалась. На альбоме "Hymns For The Deranged" отстучал новый барабанщик Стив, которого затем сменил Джош. Он продержался до альбома "Splatter Rock", где его сместил Девин. Этот диск стал последним релизом "Accused", после чего банда исчезла с музыкального горизонта. Нимейер и Сиббальд впоследствии играли в "Grunttruck", а позже Том отметил своим присутствием "Hellcat", "Lye" и "Mona Diesel".
