С такими хитами как "Power of Love" и "Shoeshine Johnny" команда прошла через 90-е годы по своему "госпел-метал" пути. Группа была образована в Лос-Анжелесе в начале 80-х. Правда, тогда она называлась не "Guardian", а "Fusion", а ее основателями являлись басист Дэвид Бах и вокалист Пол Коли. В компании с гитаристом Дэвидом Каро и ударником Рикком Хартом ребята понемногу давали концерты в окрестностях Лос-Анжелеса. Как и у многих других коллективов основным местом их тусовки стали клубы "Whiskey A Go Go" и "The Palace".
В 1985 году группу пригласили на лейбл "Enigma". Тогда же и обнаружилось, что группа "Fusion" уже существует в природе, и коллектив сменил вывеску на "Guardian". Одновременно в составе была проведена замена – гитариста Каро сменил Тони Паласиос.
Дебютный альбом, "First Watch", появился на свет лишь в 1989 году. Продюсировал его гитарист "Stryper" Оз Фокс. После выхода пластинки состоялось первое мировое турне "Guardian", закончившееся выступлениями в Японии. В 1990 году, уставшие от всяческих гастрольных неурядиц, команду покинули сразу два человека: вокалист Коли и барабанщик Харт. Спустя некоторое время им нашли замену, место у микрофонной стойки занял Джейми Роу, а за ударные уселся Карл Ней. В обновленном составе группа выпустила второй альбом "Fire And Love", в записи которого также принимал участие клавишник и бэк-вокалист Джон Элефант.
Пластинка была издана на лейбле "Pakaderm", специализировавшемся на религиозной музыке. Диск был очень тепло встречен слушателями. На самую хитовую песню с этого альбома, "Power of Love", был снят клип, частенько крутившийся на MTV.
После второго, более успешного тура в начале 1993 года вышел очередной лонгплей, "Miracle Mile", занявший в христианских музыкальных чартах пятую позицию. За ним последовал альбом "Swing Swang Swung", на котором "Guardian" поэкспериментировали с акустическим звучанием. К 1995 году группа вернулась к обычному хардовому саунду, выпустив на лейбле "Myrrh Records" пластинку "Buzz", продюсировал которую Стив Тэйлор. Большую часть композиций для этого альбома написали братья Элефант. Особенностью диска стала то, что он продавался в четырех различных конвертах, так что покупатели могли подобрать себе обложку на свой вкус. В том же году только в Испании был выпущен альбом "Nunca Te Dire Adios". Весной 1997-го вышел "Bottle Rocket", на котором "Guardian" сделали уклон в так называемый "поп-рок".
В 2000 году Роу был какое-то время вокалистом у "Ratt", а также был занят в своем побочном проекте "Adriangale". В начале нового тысячелетия "Guardian" записали еще пару "испанских" альбомов, "Promesas" и "Dime".
